El Presidente’s Personale Collezione - the very finest of corals.

At Salty Revolution we are very picky about where we buy our corals, and have our favourite suppliers for each different type of corals. Even then most of our corals are hand picked by James, so even when we find the best place to buy that type of coral we try to get down there to be 1st or nearly first in the queue, and then hand pick only the very best specimens. This ensures that we are starting with the very best source we can find, and even then handpicking the very best examples.

Once back to the shop James then hand sorts each coral individually. These are then sorted into 4 grades, so it’s easy for you to know the standard you are getting. Out of every 64 corals we pick out the best 25%, and set them to one side. The 75% left (48 out of the 64) are classed as Soldier grade. This is the lowest of our 4 grades, but, represents the best buy for your money. We charge more for the higher grades and use that to subsidise the price of the Soldier grade corals, allowing us to sell them at superb low prices! Remember these Soldier grade corals were hand picked from the best suppliers so are still above average in terms of colour etc.

Out of the remaining 16, we separate out the best 25% again and these 4 corals go through to the next round. The remaining 12 are graded as La Generale grade. La Generale is pretty choosy and only wants very good examples. The advantage of buying La Generale grade is that you know it’s one of the top 25% of our corals so you will be getting something pretty special. Whilst it costs more than Soldier grade, it’s not a huge leap in price. This is the best balance between price and quality.

Of the remaining 4 corals all of these are graded as El Presidente grade. These are the best 25%, of the best 25%, of the ones we hand picked, from the best suppliers. Even though we are super picky which corals we buy, less than 6% of those make it to El Presidente grade. The advantage of buying El Presidente grade is you know you will get some of the best coloured examples of those corals available. True showstoppers. After all only the very best are good enough for El Presidente. You will pay more to get these very finest examples, and being a (mostly) kind dictator El Presidente redistributes some of this wealth by using it to make the price of the Soldier grade corals cheaper than they should be, after all we are Salty Revolution, not Salty Corporate Monopoly!

But, wait, there is a level above this. out of those 64 corals sometimes none, often 1, very rarely 2, are hand picked out as being truly stunning examples. These are often one of examples, never before seen colours, rare colour morphs, hybrids, etc. Often there is only a few polyps of these. Sometimes on a rock of 500 zoas there might occasionally be a little patch of a few polyps of a different colour to the rest. These are hand picked out by El Presidente himself to become part of his own personal collection. These very finest of the finest. Remember we carefully handpick almost all our corals, and even then less than 1% of those earn the glory of becoming El Presidente’s Personale Collezione!

Now obviously if you want a frag of one of El Presidente’s own personal collection you will need to pay many many camels for such a rarity. El Presidente’s is allegedly pretty wealthy so you will need to bribe him heavily to take some of his prized corals. Some of the additional price of these corals is used to subsidise the cost of the Soldier grade corals, making the Soldier grade corals cheaper for the people, and some is spent on essential El Presidente supplies such as cigars, tiger food, etc. By buying El Presidente’s Personale Collezione you are helping making the Soldier grade corals cheaper for other hobbyists, and you can feel the pride of knowing your corals are good enough for El Presidente to keep in his own Personal collection!

El Presidente

No one knows for sure his real name, he is simply known by the mysterious name of El Presidente. Here is a picture of him in his favourite outfit!
